Busy With Nothing

Thursday, March 14

how to not be busy with nothing
"I have so much to do."

"Ahh...my life is so busy."

I hear this all the time. And I probably say it as much as I hear it.

The truth is, life IS busy. There IS a lot to do.

But it's all too easy for me to get caught up in the busy-ness of life and forget to take a few minutes to just sit back and relax. To walk outside and take a deep breath, and remember what life is really all about.

I've found that my to-do list is filled with a lot of things that don't really matter. And no matter how many things I check off, it still feels like I am really doing...nothing.

So this is a challenge to myself -- to enjoy the little things. To try to be as productive as possible, but never get too caught up with my to-do list.

I don't want to be so busy with nothing that I miss out on just being happy and making the most of the moment.

Do you feel the same?

I love this post! I thought about this alot this past week when I wrote my post about gratitude (http://www.caravansonnet.com/2013/03/birthday-moments-of-gratitude.html)from this past year. As I looked back I realized once again all of the precious MOMENTS that are in each day that are small but are truly so very important. :)Great reminder!!

In the busy school life , all of my friends never forget to meet up and remember all the little things that happened in past. My planner is always full with somethings I am never gonna do like water nana's plant but it's a cheery thing to write it down anyways :)

I completely agree. I just spent the morning writing out my to do list and realized how the stuff on it just doesn't matter...how much I need to change my priorities. I never want to get so busy I'm not having fun or living a life of purpose!

I completely agree with you here. Life is always going to be busy I think, people just have to realize to take a step back in the midst of all the busy!

I definitely feel the same. I have to constantly remind myself that while I so enjoy all of the things going on down here, really, all that matters is loving my God and loving other people. When I get stressed about having so many things to do, I try and remember that and it gives me peace :)

I feel the same way, constantly! It's hard to sit down and take a breather.

I feel the same way! My life is so busy and I intentionally try to put the not-so-important things on the back burner, but I still feel so busy. I'm really working on this area of my life.

It's a good philosophy! I get a little annoyed when people say things like "you have much more time than I do." Last time I checked, there are 24 hours in everyone's day and even though jobs and family and LIFE can get in the way, for the most part we really CAN choose how we spend our time.

Sometimes it's a really healthy thing to prioritize and let some things go to the backburner for a bit.

This is a huge challenge for me. I am easily overwhelmed and have to remind myself daily to slow down.

I agree! We spend so much time running around that we don't take a breather! I think that's what contributes to that feeling of running around all day working, yet still not getting anything done. We need to stop and relax long enough to reflect on that ARE getting done, and give ourselves some credit. When it is time to be busy, be busy. If you are too busy, manage your time and set your priorities. When it is not time to be busy, think about all you accomplished. Give yourself credit. Great post Emily!

This is a great post and I can totally relate!! Sometimes my husband looks at my to-do lists and laughs because it's all stuff that probably doesn't really matter but it does to me! haha you know things like update my sponsor page, etc. hehe sometimes I think I need to just take a breathe and relax too :) Great post!

I love this! & the saying to stop and smell the roses. Life is too precious to forget about the little things that make you happy.

Great advice and a great reminder!! You are right, sometimes life just gets going soo fast and we forget to take things slowly, rushing through the parts of life where we could learn the most. Always looking forward to the next day instead of the next hour!

I totally agree...and the worst is wanting to hang out with someone and they say "I can't..I'm too busy" We do spend a lot of time doing "nothing" Great post! I know I get caught up in my to-do lists!

It IS hard to really put our lives into perspective and realize what is the most important. Loved this, it's so true! Hope you had a great weekend :)

Love this one Emily! There's always something to be cleaned and another load of laundry to be done. This is something I definitely struggled with back in the fall. Now I'm trying to make a "priority" list of things that must be done each day and being ok with other tasks that will have to wait until later!
